Friends of St Mary's, Little Crosby

Visit to Leighton Hall, Near Carnforth, Lancashire.
September 5th, 2004

Leighton Hall - a Catholic home set in a beautiful valley in Lancashire.
The home of Mr & Mrs R.Gillow Reynolds. The historic seat of the Gillow family, whose ancestors have lived at Leighton for over four centuries. The House is a comfortable home, with some beautiful furniture, of which naturally, there are a number of very fine early pieces by Gillows. The setting is quite magnificent. The house is set in a natural amphitheatre in the landscape, with extensive views of north Lancashire and the Lakeland hills.

The Woodland Walk

The Maze - not as easy as it looks !

The view of the hall from the far shrubbery at the top of the woodland walk. The long lawn was designed originally for archery practice.

After a tour of the house, and a walk in the gardens, what better than a nice cup of tea - especially on such a lovely day.

After the tour, we visited the Monastery at Hyning for prayers and vespers.
