Visit to Hoghton Towers, Lancashire.
September 7th, 2003

Hoghton Towers - A great House set on a hill.
The House, since its re-creation in 1565, has remained constantly in the de Hoghton Family's ownership and retained it's Tudor - Elizabethan character and construction in it's entirety.
The name Hoghton comes from the Saxon word "Hocton" meaning high wooded Hill.
Arriving in the courtyard at Hoghton Towers

Looking back to the gatehouse.

The long drive approach to the Tower.

Settling down to watch the hawk display.
We enjoyed a splendid, and unscheduled display of hawking, with a most amusing and interesting running commentary.

Launching one of the hawks.

One of the wild-life spectators ! This one was a little difficult, as it decided to take to the branches of the nearby trees, and was reluctant to come down.
